BERLIN, Oct 27: Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot broke the course record to win the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday with all of the first ten men home coming from Kenya.

Cheruiyot, not to be confused with Boston marathon winner Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, finished in 2hr 07min 21secs to claim victory and the winners cheque.

Wilson Kigen was second in 2:08:16 and Stephen Kiogora placed third in 2:08:24, after falling shortly before the finish line.

Sabrina Mockenhaupt of Germany ran a personal best of 2:26:22 to win the women’s race ahead of Olesya Nurgalieva of Russia.

“That is a fantastic result and a wonderful experience,” said Mockenhaupt.

Nurgalieva clocked 2:27:37 and Melanie Kraus of Germany was third in 2:28:20.—AFP
