KARACHI, Oct 29: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Wednesday announced the results of Higher Secondary School Certificate Part-I Science group (pre-medical, pre-engineering and general) annual examinations-2008.

According to statistics issued by the BIEK, a total of 14,572 candidates (3,268 male and 11,304 female) appeared in the pre-medical group examinations and 6,285 of them (920 male and 5,365 female) cleared all six subjects. Among the rest, 2,020 candidates (363 male and 1,657 female) passed five subjects; 2,025 candidates (366 male and 1,659) cleared four subjects, 2,003 candidates (605 male and 1,398 female) cleared three subjects, 1,339 candidates (542 male and 797 female) cleared two subjects and 709 candidates (342 male and 367 female) cleared only one subject.

Results of 29 candidates (six male and 23 female) were withheld.

In the pre-engineering group, a total of 20,095 candidates (1,4661 male and 5,434 female) appeared in the examination and 7,709 of them (5,196 male and 2,513 female) were declared pass in all six subjects. Among the remaining ones, 2,817 candidates (2,114 male and 703 female) cleared five subjects, 2,729 candidates (1,998 female and 731 female) cleared four subjects, 3,638 candidates (2,759 male and 879 female) cleared three subjects; 2,048 candidates (1,618 male and 430 female) cleared two subjects and 924 candidates (769 male and 155 female) cleared only one subject. Results of 24 candidates (all boys) were withheld.

In the Science (general) group, 1,477 candidates (729 male and 748 female) appeared in the examination and 414 of them (142 male and 272 female) cleared all six papers while 364 candidates (167 male and197 female) cleared five subjects, 394 candidates (184 male and 210 female) cleared four subjects, 169 candidates (123 male and 46 female) cleared three subjects, 73 candidates (57 male and 16 female) cleared two subjects and 50 candidates (44 male and six female) cleared only one subject.

Results of two candidates (one male and one female) were withheld.

The BIEK has advised all those whose results have been withheld to immediately get the discrepancies in their documents removed so that their results could be released.
