SUKKUR, Oct 29: District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that establishment of women university in Sukkur has entered into its final stage and by the end of this year, it will start functioning in the premises of Government Girls Degree College.
Talking to journalists, he said that not only Sukkur but girl students belonging to other parts of Upper Sindh would get modern education in this university. He said that he had issued strict orders to the contractor to hand over complete class rooms to the college administration till November, so as to start post -graduate classes.
He termed establishment of women university a gift for the people of Sukkur where girls students from Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur and other allied areas would get benefit from it.
The nazim further said that district government has already undertaken mega projects of water supply and drainage, besides construction and repair of roads. He said that strict action is being taken against the contractors for using sub-standard material in development works.
SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar on “The role of media as an advocate on child protection” called on the authorities to make concrete efforts to protect children from abuse, forced marriages and being utilised in tribal feuds.
The seminar was organised by an NGO, Sahil, at a local hotel of Sukkur on Tuesday night, in which journalists, political and social activists and people from all shades of life participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Hijab Khoso, Muneza Ahmed, Adeel Ahmed, Hadi Bux Bhat, Khadim Hussain and others urged upon the government and civil society to provide child abuse and torture-free atmosphere to the children to secure their future.
They said that in this connection, European Union and Group Develop programme were providing funds to fight against child abuse and torture.
