LAHORE, Oct 29: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday a six-storey Punjab Institute of Forensic Sciences would be made near Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore. The 20-kanal institute will be built in 11 months, says an official handout.

Mr Sharif told a meeting at Chief Minister’s Secretariat the institute would comprise 14 departments having 32 experts. He said the institute would help police investigate cases properly to control crime and provision of justice to people.

The chief minister said efforts would be made to save public money in development projects without compromising on quality. He criticised the use of imported granite tiles in the Services Institute of Management Sciences.

He asked the officials to review expenditures on the forensic project as well as to ensure its quality and timely completion.

The home secretary said the forensic institute would house sections of DNA, pathology, crime scene, trace chemistry, death scene investigation, serology, computer forensics, fire arms and Latin finger prints. The chief engineer of the Buildings Department said the design of the project had been completed.

ZONG CEO: Zong chief executive officer Qian Lie and managing director Zaffar Usmani met Shahbaz Sharif and briefed him on Zong cellular network in Pakistan.

The chief minister directed his team to explore possibilities of further cooperation between China and Punjab in various sectors in the province.

He asked the Chinese guest to consider setting up of an Information Technology City in Lahore and promised free land for the purpose.
