HYDERABAD, Oct 30: The Institute of Sindhology of the University of Sindh in collaboration with Sindh Culture and Tourism Department is observing the 69th death anniversary of Sufi singer Bhagat Kanwar Ram on Nov 1 at the Sindhology auditorium, said a handout issued on Thursday.

It said that Sindh Minister for Culture Ms Sassui Palijo would be the chief guest on the occasion and vice-chancellor of Sindh University, Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui would preside over the function.

Bhagat Kanwar Ram was a mystic singer of mid-90s Sindh and represented Bhagti tradition of the subcontinent. He was immensely popular among Hindus as well Muslims. He was gunned down by a group of extremists in a moving train near Ruk railway station.

CONVOCATION: The University of Sindh is holding the Convocation 2007 on Dec 6 at Allama I.I. Kazi campus Jamshoro, according to a notification issued on Thursday.

Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan would preside over the convocation and confer degrees and medals on the graduates and post-graduates and PhDs, it said.

The notification advised the candidates who wished to receive degrees to contact the controller of examinations of the university and deposit convocation fee up to Nov 20.

The candidates who had already applied and deposited convocation fee for Convocation 2006 had been advised to contact the office of the controller of examinations for re-registration, it added.
