ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has selected three players for the upcoming 1st South Asian Federation boy’s U-16 Tennis Championship scheduled to be held from Nov 8-14 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

PTF Secretary Rashid Khan told Dawn on Thursday: “Heera Ashiq, Faizan Khurram and Sameer Iftikhar were selected after four-day trial matches” he said.

Fazle Subhan, he added, would accompany the team as coach.

He disclosed that the three selected players will attend a six-day training camp at the PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad starting from Nov 1.

He explained that a total of 18 players reported for the three-day trials and they were placed in six groups from which top six players were selected after round robin matches.

“We have selected top winners of the round robin matches as Heera Ashiq and Faizan Khurram won four matches out of five with scores of 59 and 55 respectively.” Samir Iftikhar, he said, won three matches with a score of 54 and gained third place.

The team will be leaving for Bangladesh on Nov 7 from Islamabad.
