ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Official results of the Supreme Court Bar Association’s elections were announced on Friday which showed victorious Ali Ahmed Kurd secured 1,009 votes against 506 of his rival, Mohammad Zafar.

“The elections were held in a very peaceful and transparent manner throughout the country,” said returning officer Hafiz S. A. Rehman after completion of counting here.

According to the results, Mr Kurd and his entire panel has swept the SCBA’s 11th elections, including positions of president, vice-presidents of four provinces, secretary, additional secretary, finance secretary and majority seats of executive members.

M. Ayyaz Khan Sawati secured 925 votes and become SCBA’s vice-president for Balochistan, Mohammad Saeed Akhtar Khan 810 votes for the NWFP, Javed Jilal Mian 841 votes for Punjab and Suhail Hayat Khan Rana 628 votes for Sindh.

Kurd panel’s Shoukat Umar Piracha secured 812 votes for the position of secretary, Zulfikar Khalid Maluka 880 votes for additional secretary and Sheikh Ahsanuddin 934 votes for finance secretary.

Jahanzaib Khan Jadoon and Mohammad Qahir Shah have been elected as members executive committee from Balochistan; Ghulam Nabi and Noor Alam Khan from the NWFP; Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, Bakhtiar Ali Sial, Jamil Ahmad Sanhu Chaudhry, Mohammad Mudassar Bodla, Mohammad Tariq Asad, Sumaira Akhtar Awan and Syed Murtaza Ali Zaidi from Punjab; and Haji Shafi M. Chandio, Javaid Ahmad Siddiqui and Ziaul Haq Makhdoom from Sindh.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Kurd said a meeting of the association would be held on Nov 4 to bid farewell to outgoing president Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and his team, as well as to chalk out future line of action.
