MUMBAI, Oct 31: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was a key figure in the 2006 Oval Test fiasco, on Friday took a swipe at the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) over its insistence to once again change the result of that ill-fated Test between Pakistan and England.

“It seems that the MCC has nothing better to do,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by a leading paper on Friday.

“Its recommendation to the International Cricket Council to change the result of the [Oval] Test is farcical,” he added.

Inzamam was captain of the Pakistan team that suffered the ignominy of becoming the first side in Test history to forfeit a match. Inzamam, who is currently leading Lahore Badshahs in the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL), expressed his surprise over the interest shown in the Oval Test. “I don’t know why they are taking so much interest in it,” he said. “I mean the decision to change the result was taken with the consent of the ICC bosses and the case was closed.”

Inzamam said that even if the ICC decides to change the result of the Test, it won’t affect him much. “The only thing such a move will achieve is ridicule,” he said.—Agencies
