LAHORE, Nov 1: Pakistan Navy and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) registered wins over their rivals as two more matches were decided in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) on Saturday.

Navy handed a 2-0 defeat to Habib Bank Limited with two first-half strikes from their midfielders at the Naval Complex in Islamabad, while PTV suffered another big defeat at the hands of NBP, losing 1-4 at the PSB Ground, near Hamidi Hall, Islamabad.

The 118th encounter of the event saw Navy’s midfielder Nasir Hussain pouncing on a stray ball rebounded off the right side to surge Navy ahead in the 15th minute and the other midfielder Nomi Martin Gill consolidating the lead 13 minutes later when his angular drive proved too good for keeper Aqeel Ahmed. Navy led 2-0 at interval and their tight marking gave the bankers no gaps to dash through.

In the other match, NBP’s speedy midfielder Farooq Shah and winger Mohammad Asif earned a brace. Farooq broke the ice in the 29th minute and added his other in the 41st minute.

NBP led 3-1 at interval and Asif hammered the ball into the net twice in the 34th and 57th minute. PTV fired their lone goal through striker Naimatullah, his third of the event.

Sunday’s fixture: PEL v Afghan FC at the Model Town Football Academy Ground, Lahore; Wapda v KPT at the Railway Stadium, Lahore; Punjab Medical College v Karachi Electric Supply Corporation at the PMC Ground, Faisalabad. All matches kick off at 2.30pm.—Agencies
