FAISALABAD, Nov 3: Activists and leaders of PML-N and Jamaat-i-Islami joined hands with lawyers to observe a black day on Monday throughout Punjab to protest the imposition of emergency and deposing 60 judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts on Nov 3 last year.

In Faisalabad, the district bar association brought out a protest rally which was also joined by women lawyers. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans, some in favour to reinstate all the deposed judges, and others against former president Pervez Musharraf.

A caravan of DBA members also left Faisalabad for Islamabad to join the deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. They were also accompanied by leaders and activists of PML-N waving their party flags and banners with catchphrases to restore judiciary.

The Jamaat-i-Islami also took out a protest rally in connection with the black day.

MUZAFFARGARH: On the call of lawyers Action Committee, lawyers along with workers of the PML-N, the JI, the PTI, civil society and traders participated in the protest rally.

Addressing the lawyers, DBA office bearers said they would continue their struggle till the restoration of the CJP and other deposed judges.

Activists of the PML-N, the JI and the PTI also shouted slogans against the government. PML-N MPA Sultan Haroon Bukhari brought two buses full of workers.

BAHAWALPUR: The legal fraternity observed a strike and stayed away from court proceedings while MPs, a minister and workers of the Jamaat-i-Islami and PML-N also observed a black day.

The district bar association organized a protest meeting at the barroom chaired by Punjab Minister for Special Education Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar.

The house on the move of the stage secretary announced imposing a ban on the entry of Senator Latif Khosa in the Bahawalpur barroom.

Later, separate protest rallies of lawyers and the PML-N were taken out which caused traffic blockade at the busy Farid Gate where PML-N workers had set up a welcome camp.

PML-N MPs, MNA Saood Majid Chaudhry, minister Malik Iqbal Channar, MPAs Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja, Zulfiqar Ali, Kazim Peerzada, former MPA and chairman Punjab task force Samiullah Chaudhry and JI leader Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar addressed on the occasion.

Officials of the Punjab government and police facilitated the PML-N which actively participated in the protest.

GUJRANWALA: Lawyers boycotted the court proceedings and gathered at the barroom to protest the imposition of emergency on Nov 3, 2007.

Bar president Malik Shaukat Ali Awan, secretary-general Khalid Latif and about 200 lawyers left Gujranwala for Rawalpindi to participate in a lawyers’ convention. Lawyers also installed black flags atop the bar building.

SHEIKHUPURA: The lawyers’ community in Sheikhupura, Ferozwala, Nankana Sahib and Sangla Hill had not only boycotted court proceedings but also held rallies against the draconian laws imposed by former president Pervez Musharraf.

A meeting was also held in the district court which was addressed by Sheikhupura Bar Association president Nasrullah Wattoo.

MNA Javaid Latif said that the PPP government had not only given a free hand to Pervez Musharraf but was also following his policies which were detrimental to the solidarity and integrity of the country.

SAHIWAL: Two different processions left Sahiwal for Lahore to participate in the black day rally.

The lawyers’ convoy was led by DBA president Tahir Bahsir while the second procession was headed by PML-N district president and provincial Food Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran.

The lawyers were accompanied by senior bar council members, including representatives of civil society and Chichawatni tehsil bar.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Lawyers took out a rally at Kamalia, marched on different roads and dispersed peacefully after chanting slogans for the restoration of the CJP and other deposed judges.

From Toba, dozens of lawyers left for Islamabad to participate in the black day while rest of the lawyers observed a complete boycott of courts. Lawyers at Gojra also stayed away from court proceedings.

LAYYAH: The district bar association boycotted courts and brought out a rally in connection with a black day.

The rally started from the district barroom in which a large number of lawyers, civil society members and Jamaat-i-Islami activists took part. Scores of PML-N workers also joined lawyers when they reached the district press club.
