HYDERABAD, Nov 5: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-X of Hyderabad on Wednesday remanded local PML-Q leader Dr Shafiq Arain to judicial custody for eight days.
He was produced before the court by Hussainabad police in the double murder case of his wife and driver, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Nara prison.
The deceased driver’s brother Shaukat Junejo had lodged a double murder case of doctor’s wife Najdah and driver Shakeel Junejo, who were found dead in Arain’s bungalow on October 16.
Police had first lodged a case on the compliant of Dr Shafiq Arain. He had claimed that he had been kidnapped by four unidentified persons and he was then abandoned near Hala Naka. He contacted his brother who informed him that his wife and driver had been murdered.
Arain later confessed to a team of investigating officers, led by DPO Hyderabad Ghulam Nabi Memon, that he had killed them to save his honour. His statement under section 161 Cr.PC was recorded before the police.
He subsequently got interim pre-arrest bail from the Additional District Judge-III through his counsel Zahoor A. Baloch on the ground that although he was not arrested in the case but his movements had been restricted.
Shaukat Junejo, the brother of deceased driver, however, registered a case with Hussainabad police against Shafiq Arain for the double murder incident.
The challan of the case has not been submitted as yet.
POLICE CUSTODY: The same judge remanded a girl, Shagufta Ansari, and a Jordanian national, Mohammad, in a murder case to police custody for three days after they were produced before the court by Makki Shah investigation wing police.
The two accused were arrested in the murder case of Naveed A.Shaikh, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances on the seventh floor of Al-Amna complex on October 27. His father, Basheer Sheikh, also appeared before the court and submitted copy of his application, seeking formation of medical board.
He requested the court not to release the accused because the medical board, formed by director-general health services Sindh, has yet to give its findings on the points raised by him in respect of his son’s post-mortem report, which he believed, is not correct. He also informed the court that he has expressed no confidence on two investigating officers, ASP Afnan Ameen and sub-inspector Naik Mohammad.
The court allowed three more days remand in police custody of two accused, who have denied having any link with the incident.
Mohammad claimed that Naveed Sheikh had committed suicide and he had not murdered him.
