HYDERABAD, Nov 5: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has criticised the government on its failure to revoke illegal decisions taken by General Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007 and said that it is an insult to mandate given by the people.

A meeting of the central committee of the STP was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Dr Qadir Magsi which discussed the prevailing political and economic situation of the country.

It observed one minute silence on the loss of 200 precious lives in Balochistan due to earthquake and offered fateha for the departed souls.

It reminded the rulers that they had given a commitment to the nation that within 30 days of coming into power, they would revoke the illegal decisions taken by General Pervez Musharraf, reinstate the deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, grant complete provincial autonomy to the provinces, ensure judicious distribution of water and finances to the provinces, bring the perpetrators of May 12 and October 18 killings to the book and take effective measures to control price hike and unemployment.

However, the rulers have forgotten all their pre-election promises made with the people and it is now quite evident that nothing has changed in the country except the faces, the meeting observed. Not only this but price hike and unemployment have further increased, the meeting noted.

It said that the PPP government has also forgotten its promises about the construction of Greater Thal Canal, dams and Thar coal.

It said that the PPP had also promised to abolish local government system introduced by Pervez Musharraf and restore Hyderabad district to its previous shape but the people of Sindh were still waiting for these promises to be fulfilled.

It criticised the reduction in the prices of cotton and rice crops and acute shortage of water in Sindh.

The meeting decided to stage a massive rally in Hyderabad on November 16 against the proposed privatisation of Qadirpur gas field. It also decided to hold annual party congress in Hyderabad on November 21, 22 and 23.

It decided that the party chairman, Dr Qadir Magsi after the meeting of party congress, will undertake an extensive tour of Sindh and address public meetings and intellectuals and writers to discuss the prevailing situation.

AT: Awami Tehrik chief Abdul Qadir Ranto has said that unless feudal system is abolished, poor people of the country will continue to suffer oppression and excesses despite the change in government.

He was talking to party workers here on Wednesday.

He said the present rulers have greatly disappointed the people specially the people of Sindh as they have not been provided any relief.

Nothing has changed except the faces, he said and added that the present rulers were also following the anti-peoples imperialist policies.

LUMHS CONVOCATION: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences would hold its 7th Convocation on Nov 15, said chairman of the convocation committee Dr Rafique Memon at a press conference at the press club on Wednesday.

He said that the Convocation would be presided over by Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan and the speaker of National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza would be the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Memon said that 20 gold medals would be awarded to position holders and 500 students, including graduates of 2006 and 2007 batches as well as postgraduates in various disciplines and nursing students would be awarded degrees.
