PPP activists occupy nazim office

HYDERABAD, Nov 7: PPP activists under the leadership of the chairman of District Development Board, occupied the office of district nazim, prompting the latter to move Hyderabad sessions court and other government functionaries for action.

Chairman Zulfikar Sattar Bachani along with PPP workers occupied the office of District Nazim Rahila Magsi in her absence on Thursday. Rahila Magsi on Friday moved the sessions court in this regard.

Mr Zulfikar after chairing the Board’s first meeting in district government secretariat on Thursday unlocked Nazim’s office along with PPP activists amid slogans of Jeay Bhutto.

Zulfikar Sattar Bachani is the son of PPP leader and former MPA Abdul Sattar Bachani.

Mr Zulfikar justified his action to journalists, on the plea that Dr Rahila had lost majority in the council because of which meeting was not being held and development work affected.

Talking to Dawn by phone Zulfikar said that his status was equivalent to that of district nazim and the office was not allotted to Dr Rahila in her personal capacity.

He refuted the allegation of taking away record from her office rather accused Dr Rahila of covering her corruption by removing the record herself. He refused to vacate nazim’s office unless a separate place was not provided to him.

Zulfikar father defending his son’s action said that there was no harm if he was using nazim’s office as status of both was equal. “If she intends to take legal action then she may proceed with it,” he said.

The beleaguered nazim is in Islamabad and told Dawn that Mr Zulfikar, PPP MPA Imdad Pitafi, Ghulam Qadir Marri and hundreds of PPP activists had criminally trespassed into her office. “They broke open my office on gunpoint and in the presence of DCO and DPO,” she alleged. She claimed that the DPO refused to order registration of an FIR.

She said that since her rivals failed to oust her from district nazim’s office through a no-confidence motion, they were now resorting to unlawful steps.

“I still have the majority in council and they would have tabled a no-confidence motion had they, the required number of voters,” she said.

She said that one of her group’s members in district council, Bhoro Lal, earlier kidnapped and forced to change the loyalty, has now been challaned in a fake theft case.

Meanwhile, Dr Rahila had sent communications to President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Sindh Chief Minister, Governor and Chief Justice and Hyderabad sessions judge, requesting action in the matter. The sessions judge on Friday forwarded her complaint to the additional district judge-III for further proceedings.
