LAHORE, Nov 8: Five-year-old Miss Play looks set to win the Mianwali Cup to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres when the 10th Lahore Winter Meeting gets underway at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The chestnut mare, a progeny of Polinesso out-of-Miss Catherine, Miss Play had finished second in her previous outing on Oct 12, which is a useful pointer to her gaining form. Till then she had not shown her peak form and she should be tuned up and capable of reproducing her best run after three weeks on Sunday.

Among her opponents there seems none, who have shown the ability to produce top form yet to make things going Miss Play’s way.

The News, Richey Dancer, Big Bird and Victory Hero are the speedy runners, who should fight for the frame. This will be the fourth race in the racing order.

In the other notable event, the November Cup to be contested over 1,200 metres, three-year-old colt, Shock Wave seems better of the eight probable starters.

Shock Wave had won a grand race on Oct 12 and will be on the course to make it a two-in-a-row. He is placed at the bottom of the class IV division I, II and III handicap race. He is carrying seven stones and four pounds. Combined with form and race timing, he has the potential to beat the sort of field he is meeting, though under different weight scales and classification. Speed goes in the colt’s favour. There are instances in which speed has beaten classification. Tuba First and Lucky Cat are the other form horses to match Shock Wave’s strides. This will be the fifth race in racing order.

The Ravi Plate class VI division I-A to be contested over 1,000 metres has 13 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals. Of them on form three attract attention. They are: Trump Coup, Dream Memories and Blue Fire.

The first name should have the better of others in this sixth and last race of the day. Since the race is tightly handicapped, the best rider would matter the most.

Extravagant and Snow Fall are the pick of the third race, the Ravi Plate class VI division I-B over 1,000 metres. Both are equally placed in handicap to measure each other’s strides with Extravagant on the better edge.

Twice beaten to second position, three-year-old colt Mikado is better placed in the field of six runners to make amends this time and win the second race. Mare Strides To Moment look good for a place.

The opener has 14 runners, if all make it up at the start. Suleman Love, Dream Act and First Passion are the fastest among all and should fight for the spoils over 1,000 metres.

A card of six-events will be decided. Five events will be contested over 1,000 metres and one 1,200 metres. The first race will be held at 1:00pm.
