KARACHI: Fake CNICs scam

Published November 13, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 12: Deputy Chairman of NADRA Tariq Malik has said that the national database is completely secure.

Mr Malik, who is on a visit to the city, was given a briefing by an FIA team, investigating involvement of some Nadra data entry operators in a fake CNICs scam. He said the authority would extend its full cooperation to the law-enforcement agencies in the investigation.

He, however, dispelled the impression that the CNIC issuance was going to be monitored by FIA or any team of the agency was being posted at the Nadra headquarter for verifications or the purpose of access to the database.

“Nadra has a social contract with the citizens of Pakistan and private record of the citizens cannot be examined by any investigation agency without proper approval of competent authorities…” he said.—APP
