FAISALABAD, Nov 14: A local jury has allegedly covered up the case of a girl assaulted by a seminary head in Rasheedabad on Jhang Road, Dawn learnt on Friday.

An 18-year-old girl (R) was allegedly assaulted by the seminary head who she would visit to learn the Holy Quran by heart.

Dawn visited the area and found local people reluctant to speak over the issue because of the influence of the accused in the area.

A few people, requesting anonymity, said that three days ago the brother of the victim had informed a few people of the area that the seminary head had allegedly sexually assaulted his sister.

However, he changed his stance the next day when the jury asked him not to pursue the case.

They said the accused had sound relations with power muscles and because of this the victim family did not take up the issue.

Three brothers of the victim learnt the Holy Quran by heart from this institution.

Police did not inform their senior officials about the issue as the seminary head and influential head of the jury had allegedly greased their palms.

Mohammad Bashir, assistant sub-inspector of Gulifshan Colony post, said he had no information about the issue, however, the union council squad may know about the issue.

He said police could not do anything until they were approached by the victim.

The family of the victim refused to comment the situation and said that issue had been resolved with the involvement of the locals.

The accused said some unscrupulous elements had hatched conspiracies against him and now most of them had sought pardon. He said the girl was neither student nor teacher here.

However, he admitted that he sworn on the Holy Quran before few inmates of the area and assured them that he had nothing to do with this case.

He dispelled the impression that people had barred their daughters from attending his institution. You can check that girls are getting education here, he said.
