India clears Pakistani goods

NEW DELHI, Nov 15: Pakistani goods meant for display at India International Trade Fair finally reached the site on the second day of opening of the fair after being delayed at the Delhi Dry Port due to lack of clearance by Indian authorities.

Sheikh Farooq Ahmed, Director Pakistan Pavilion said that Pakistan’s stalls remained empty for two days since the opening of the trade fair on Friday as 40 containers remained stuck up at the dry port for lack of clearance from Indian authorities.

These were cleared only on the evening of Nov 11 with the active support of Pakistan High Commission, he said.

Sheikh Farooq said this happened despite the fact that India has declared Pakistan as a partner-country of the fair this year because its stall is the biggest, covering the largest area.

The Pakistani exhibitors were disappointed over the situation, he said.

Pakistan has put up 123 stalls from 80 companies. The products on display included garments, fabrics, onyx, textile handicraft, spices, food products, ladies garments and foot-wears, he said.

Farooq said more than 50 per cent of Indian visitors are attracted to the fair due to Pakistani products.

He said an exclusive ‘Pakistan Made’ exhibition will be held in February next in New Delhi.

The trade fair, which is an annual feature, will continue till Feb 27.—APP
