CHARSADDA, Nov 16: A woman died in the emergency ward of the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital here on Saturday night due to absence of doctors and nursing staff at the ward.
Relatives of the woman demonstrated against the absence of doctors and demanded punitive action against the negligent hospital staff.
Niaz Ali resident of Babakhel, Prang, said that he brought his aunt to the hospital in critical condition where Dr Abdur Rashid checked her and referred her to the female emergency ward. He said that they rushed the patient to the female emergency ward, but no staff nurse or doctor was present there.
“We looked for the doctors, but found no one in the ward,” Niaz Ali said, adding that the patient was rushed back to Dr Rashid, who gave her an injection, but then it was too late.
He said that when other relatives raised hue and cry against the hospital staff, other doctors came and tried to treat the patient, but she had expired by then.
On the occasion, they protested against the hospital staff and refused to remove the body from the hospital. However, they took away the body when Dr Abdur Rashid assured them of action against the doctors absent. Niaz Ali demanded of the provincial government to initiate an inquiry against the doctors and other staff of the female emergency ward and take action against them.
MAN DIES IN ACCIDENT: A man died when he was knocked down by a car part of a marriage procession on Behlola road here on Sunday. The victim was identified as Mohammad Omar, resident of Nawagai, Charsadda.
In another road accident, two brothers suffered injuries, when a speeding car hit them near Nisatta here on Sunday. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
PROTEST TOMORROW: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has planned to hold a demonstration in Peshawar on Tuesday to protest against the displacement of people due to the ongoing military operation in the tribal region and other areas of the Frontier province.
This was stated by JI Mohmand Agency amir Munsif Khan and Charsadda district amir Mohammad Riaz, while speaking at a press conference here on Sunday.
They demanded of the government to immediately halt the operation and initiate a dialogue process to restore peace to the troubled region. They said that curfew was imposed in the Mohmand Agency for the last six days and innocent people were being killed and wounded in the operation against militants. “Many more have been displaced from their homes and forced to migrate to other areas due to the operation,” they added.
They said that the people were dying while shifting from their homes to safer places as the roads were blocked and no transport was available.
