KARACHI, Nov 19: The three-day 8th National Women’s Netball Championship began in Faisalabad’s Islamia College for Women on Wednesday with Punjab Blues, Sindh Greens, Wapda and Police registering wins on the first day.

The inaugural match played between Punjab Blues and Lahore Grammar School was won by Punjab Blues 18-8 thanks to outstanding performances by the winning team’s goal-shooter Sobia and goal-attack Aisha.

Meanwhile, Sindh Greens beat Police 21-15 in the morning session with Sindh’s GS Quratulain (11 goals), GA Umama Qadri (three goals) and central players Aisha, Humaira and Huma giving outstanding performances.

In another match played between Wapda and Sindh Greys, Wapda won by 19-7 with GS Rizwana and GA Laila having a major role in the win.

In the evening session, Police played a one-sided match with Punjab, beating them 27-5 while Punjab Blues beat Wapda 15-14 after a tough fight.

The matches were supervised by umpires Khalid Parvaiz, Rizwan Bashir, Anwar Ahmed, Maqbool Ahmed, Shahid Amin, Mohammad Rashid, Qudsia Raja, Uzma Kiran and Zaibunnisa.

The event, organised by the Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) and Punjab Netball Association (PNA) in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) and the Fasialabad Netball Association (FNA), concludes on Nov 21.
