LAHORE, Nov 21: A single-day exhibition of artworks titled ‘The Lahore Residency’ held at Alhamra Art Centre on Friday.

The exhibition is an outcome of a 16-day international residency programme organised by the German Cultural Centre and Vasl Artistes Collective.

Ten artists from China, Germany, United States, Nepal, India, Iran and Scotland worked with 14 Pakistani artists who had graduated during last eight years in paintings, video productions, sculptor, digital art and miniature.

The major part of the exhibition was on display at Alhamra Art Centre. Since the exhibition also had on-site projects, an art bus took artists to different venues in Lahore to see those projects. Seven to 23 artists had site specified projects at Data Darbar, Mori Gate, Shahalam Market and Delhi Gate.

Works on display at Alhamra included a big boat titled ‘Ship of the Hope’ on which seven residency participants had worked. They had got the boat from Racecourse Park and navigated through the city canal. The basic idea behind this whole exercise was united effort by the people and artists. General public also helped artists in making up the boat as it was an effort by all for hope.

An Iranian artist had put on display a self-portrait and a portrait of Benazir Bhutto. A large number of art lovers turned up to see the exhibition.
