HYDERABAD, Nov 30: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture asked the government on Sunday to immediately set up rice procurement centres in the province.

A meeting of the chamber chaired by Mir Murad Ali Talpur said that the growers were not being paid the official price of Rs700 per 40 kilogram and urged the government to ensure that the traders paid the official rate.

The meeting demanded that water should be released into Jamrao, Mithrao and Naseer canals to enable growers to cultivate Rabi crop on time and called for an end to black-marketing of urea fertiliser in the province.

The meeting urged the government to direct sugar mills to pay outstanding dues to cane growers.

Anwar Bachani, Mohammad Khan Sarejo and Mir Imdad Ali Talpur attended the meeting.

GAZETTED OFFICERS: The Gazetted Officers Association of the secondary schools decided on Sunday to launch a movement in case their demands were not accepted.

Members of the association who met here at the Government High School No.1 welcomed Sindh education minister’s statement that officers brought from outside would be removed from administrative posts in schools and the school officials would be appointed in their place.
