RAWALPINDI, May 11: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has said a building will be constructed in the centre of the city with the help of private sector to provide free daily meals to about 3,000 destitute people.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the privately funded Fawara Chowk beautification project, where 54 fountains had been constructed at a cost of one million rupees.
Mr Kiani said more details of the soup-kitchen project would be unveiled in a formal announcement some time during the next fortnight.
He said the district government would also use philanthropists’ money to build a series of fountains around Chandni Chowk at an estimated cost of Rs4 million.
These projects would help revive the indigenous architecture, he said and added, the water gushing out of these fountains would also help minimise the air pollution.
