LAHORE, Dec 2: A major thrust of unknown pedigree horses makes the six-event card heavily subscribed for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races which gets under way at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

With the exception of the first race, which has 10 horses, the other events are loaded with a dozen to 17 runners, with at least six horses on chance in each race.

There are some who are new or running after a long absence from the track. Their strength and capabilities have not yet been exposed fully as the track work is not a true indicator of horses’ potentiality.

Four races will be held over the sprinting distance of 900 metres while two will be gone over 1,000 metres.

The feature event, the Shalimar Plate class VI division I and II, to be gone over 1000 metres has 14 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

If one goes by their present form and performances in races and consistency only three qualify to be the real contenders. They are: Miss Brave Heart, Credit Card and Geo Bhakkar.

Miss Brave Heart, a five-year-old mare from Unite out-of- Zeeshan Choice, ran exceptionally well on Sunday last winning over 1,200 metres, looks set to make it two wins in-a-row.

Credit Card and Geo Bhakkar could be her challengers in this sixth and last race of the day.

Five-year-old bay horse Barray Lal is now set to make his seasonal bow in the fifth and supporting event, the Shalimar Plate class VI division III and IV to be contested over the distance of 1,000 metres.

He is a speedy horse who registered a facile victory in July and is capable of making it back-to-back wins. It is very astonishing as to why he did not appear on the track since his July victory? His track reports are good.

On recent form Victory King, Shan-e-Aamir and Regulation may prove thorns in Barray Lal’s way to victory.

Pretty Mehak, Deluxe and Best Owner look good to fight for spoils in the fourth race to be contested over 900 metres.

Pretty Mehak was beaten to second place on previous outing and should make amends and win the race, the Shahkot Plate class VII division I to be contested by the big field of 17 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

Karmanwala, Victory Tiger and Farjan Prince attract attention while going through the performance table of a dozen horses making the field for the third race. This is class VII division II and III combined handicap race.

Karmanwala looks having edge on handicap and the distance of 900 metres set for the race.

The other two races, the 1st and the 2nd are the class VII lower divisions to be contested over 900 metres. Both are subscribed by the majority unknown horses and inconsistency is their hallmark, if one goes by the book record.

The first race will be held at 1:00pm.
