European, US stocks lower

LONDON, Dec 4: European stock markets closed slightly lower on Thursday after a volatile trading day featuring dramatic interest cuts from central banks while US shares were little changed around midday.

London’s FTSE 100 index of leading shares closed down 0.15 per cent to 4,163.61 points, in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.17 per cent to 3,161.16 points while in Frankfurt the DAX lost 0.07 per cent to 4,564.23 points.

In the US at 1650 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.47 per cent, the Nasdaq was off 0.16 per cent and the S&P was off 0.32 per cent.
