HYDERABAD, Dec 4: Students passing out from the Sindh University were reminded by the Vice Chancellor to remain dedicated to the country and cause for which they employed precious years of their lives.

Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui of Sindh University presided over the Convocation 2008, and conferred degrees on 1,185 male and female candidates during the function held at the Allama I.I.Kazi Campus Jamshoro on Thursday.

The academic event was attended by a large number of students and alumni, members of academic, senate and syndicate, deans of faculties and directors and chairpersons of the institutes and departments. Others present were vice chancellors of public and private sector universities, members of provincial assembly, educationists, intellectuals and notables from different walks of life. The vice chancellor conferred degrees and chancellor and vice chancellor medals on candidates.

The VC announced of establishing the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair and said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convocation Hall would soon be constructed at the university. He thanked the Sindh government for sanctioning Rs150 million for the purpose.

He called for cleansing the society from hunger, poverty, terrorism and illiteracy. Terming education to be a necessity for development, he told the graduates to come up to the expectations of both, their parents and mentors.

He said that many disciplines had been introduced to cater to the needs of modern age and many reforms were in the pipeline.
