ATTOCK, Dec 8: The police on Monday carried out flag marches Attock, Taxila and Murree as a ‘show of power’ ahead of Eidul Azha, officials said.

Sub-divisional police officers led the convoys in Attock, Fatehjang, Pindigheb, Jand, Hassanabdal and Hazro. Similar marches will also be staged on Eid.

District Police Officer (DPO) Attock Fakhar Sultan Raja said extraordinary security measures had been taken to ensure foolproof security.

Leave of all police officials have been cancelled to ensure presence of the required strength of police force.

A control room has been established at the police headquarters to monitor the law and order situation round the clock, he added.

DPO Raja said the law enforcement agencies were also on high alert in wake of any backlash against the crackdown on activists of a banned outfit in Muzaffarabad.

TAXILA: Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Syed Nasir Kazimi on Monday led a flag march in the towns of Taxila and Wah Cantonment to create a sense of security among the public ahead of Eidul Azha, Dawn’s correspondent adds from Taxila.

In Wah Cantonment, other law enforcement agencies, including the POF Security, Defence Security Guards (DSG) and POF Traffic Control, also participated in the procession.

Security around the cantonment area has further been beefed up after the recent arrest of four suspects belonging to Afghanistan and tribal region from a sensitive area.

The security agencies have chalked out a foolproof security plan to avoid any untoward incident on Eid.

Under the pan, police would ensure security around as many as 220 mosques and 12 Imambargahs in Taxila and Wah Cantonment.

Police personnel have been deployed in uniform and plainclothes at sensitive places to thwart any act of sabotage. Similarly, officials will also be deployed on rooftops of sensitive buildings.

Sources in the local administration told this correspondent that the police high-ups issued alert notice to their subordinates, asking them to make extraordinary security arrangements on Eid.

MURREE: Murree police patrolled The Mall to show their strength in a bid to warn criminals and hooligans against any unlawful activity, adds Dawn’s correspondent from Murree.

Police vehicles from different check posts, including Barrian, Phagwari, Gulehra Gali, Tret, Bazaar, Deval and Sunny Bank, comprised the large convoy.

Murree is a major mountain resort of the country and a large number of tourists visit it, especially on special occasions like Eid.

This time a large rush is expected on Eid, as the meteorological department has forecast snowfall the same day.
