RAWALPINDI, Dec 12: Two boys were among three persons killed in separate road accidents taking place in the city on Friday, officials said.

The Airport police said an unidentified boy aged between 12 and 13 was killed after being run over by a vehicle near Gulzar-i-Quaid.

The accident victim was crossing the road when he was hit by a jeep. The police detained the driver, who was identified by his first name Naveed, and impounded his vehicle.

Mohammad Yasin, 60, died in a hit-and-run accident in the Civil Lines police area. Mr Yasin’s wife told the police that she did not want to lodge a complaint.

A 17-year-old boy was killed while his friend was injured after their motorbike slipped on the Rawal Road and crashed into a wall.

Mohammad Omer and Mohammad Waqas were going on a motorbike when the accident occurred, killing Waqas on the spot and injuring his friend, who was driving the motorbike.

The injured was shifted to the hospital where he was stated to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, gold ornaments weighing 450 tolas and prize bonds were stolen from a jewellery shop in old Sarafa bazaar, while five other persons fell victim to thefts in different parts of the city on Thursday, police said.

Burglars used hammers and steel saw to cut through the shutters at Pervez Jewellers before breaking the heavy lockers containing “substantial amount” of gold ornaments.

The burglary victim told the Banni police that he locked his shop on the eve of Eid, but when he returned on Thursday, he found the locks and the safes broken.

On listing the looted gold ornaments and other valuables, he found 450 tolas of gold jewellery valuing at millions of rupees and prize bonds stolen. The value of the prize bonds is yet to be ascertained.

Zahid Hameed, a robbery victim, lodged a complaint with the Waris Khan police, stating that he was on his way home when two motorbike riders intercepted him and snatched Rs50,000 and a cellphone from him.

Mohammad Saddique told the Jatli police that some burglars broke into his house and made off with Rs200,000 and 10 tolas of gold jewellery.
