HARIPUR: Alleged intruder strangled

HARIPUR, Dec 13: A man who allegedly entered a house in the Khalabat Township on Friday night was strangled by a family member, police said.

The police quoted Mohammad Amir as saying that he was sleeping in his house when he heard his sister Maimona Bibi, 16, crying. He went to her room and saw a stranger trying to flee. In a bid to overpower the man, he hit him in the head with a blunt object. “I captured the man after he fell to the ground and squeezed his throat, which led to his death,” he reportedly told the police. After the incident, he informed the police who took the body into custody.

The alleged intruder was identified as Malik Tariq. The local police registered a case and started investigation.

CHILD KILLED: A minor child was crushed to death by a vehicle on the G.T. Road on Saturday.

Kotnajibullah police said that one Mussarat Bibi, wife of Hashmat Khan, was crossing the road near Sera-i-Gadai, carrying her minor son, when a pick-up hit her. The baby fell down and was crushed to death, police said.

14 INJURED: At least 14 persons were injured when two rival groups of Afghan refugees clashed at the refugee camp on Friday night.

Kotnajibullah police quoted one Abdul Baig, as saying that he had taken an area of cultivated land near the Tarbela Lake on lease from a local for growing wheat. But one of his compatriots Said Ghulab was allegedly annoyed which led to the incident.

Six persons from Baig group were injured while about eight persons from the alleged attackers received injuries. The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital Haripur from where five seriously injured persons were referred to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad. The police have arrested seven accused.

GAMBLERS HELD: Haripur police claimed to have arrested ten gamblers from the jurisdiction of Saddar police station.

The police raided a gambling den in village Aloli and arrested accused Sajid, Zafar, Maqbool, Liaqat, Waeed, Nazakat, Naveed, Abdul Rehman, Saeed and Ilyas. The police reportedly recovered stake money amounting Rs10,170, three mobile phones and gambling articles. A case against the accused was registered.
