NAGANO (Japan), Dec 13: Shani Davis of the United States won the men’s 1,000-metre race at a speed skating World Cup meet on Saturday, while compatriot Jennifer Rodriguez captured the women’s 1,000 event.
Davis finished in 1 minute, 09.21 seconds to beat Denny Morrison of Canada, who was .19 seconds off the pace. South Korea’s Lee Kyou-hyuk finished third in 1:09.43.
Japan’s Keiichiro Nagashima won the men’s 500 with a time of 34.81 to finish ahead of China’s Yu Fengtong, who clocked 34.91.
In the women’s 1,000, Rodriguez posted a time of 1:16.34 to edge Canada’s Christine Nesbitt by .05 seconds. Kristina Groves of Canada was third in 1:16.62.
Germany’s Jenny Wolf easily won the women’s 500 metres with a time of 37.71, comfortably ahead of South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa, who had a time of 38.39.—AP
