TAXILA, Dec 16: The Hassanabdal Cadet College Board of Governors (BoG) approved 25 percent increase in the fees of cadets including monthly tuition fee, hostel fee and mess dues.

Reliable sources in the Cadet College said that the Board of Governors (BoG) met in Lahore on Monday with Governor Punjab and BoG President Salmaan Taseer. Presently 540 cadets were enrolled with the college.

The governor also issued orders to allocate a 10 per cent quota for deserving students from Balochistan and the Tribal Areas. Similarly the governor ordered the college authorities to initiate A-level classes.

The board of governors approved budget of Rs210 million for the year of 2008-09 of the college.

It has been decided to constitute a three-member Finance Committee to carry out a detailed audit of expenses incurred on capital purchases.

It also examined the pace of work on a Rs170 million expansion project.

The governor ordered an amendment in the College Foundation Ordinance of 1966 aimed at introducing the college's own pay scale for its teachers. The board also decided to nominate the Rawalpindi commissioner as member of the Board of Governors (BoG). It has learnt that the decision of 25 per cent increase in monthly dues has stirred unrest among the cadets and their parents.

TRANSPORTERS FINED: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials on Tuesday got a sum of Rs20,000 overcharged by the public transporters returned to the commuters on various inter city and inter district routes, besides imposing fine on them.

The team of the officials of RTA, headed by MMIP Tariq Imam Shah launched a crack down on the public transporters after receiving a number of complaints received from commuters.

During checking over fifty vehicles were fined for different traffic rules violations including overcharging and having no route permit. The public service vehicles with TV and VCRs were also fined.

The official warned the transporters that strict action would be taken against public service transporters for violating official fare list notified by the RTA Rawalpindi for various routes of Taxila, Wah Cantt, Hassanabdal and other adjourning cities.
