LONDON, Dec 16: With security concerns growing day by day and players showing unwillingness to tour conflict zones, The Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) is now canvassing its members to have their say in the issue.

”FICA will be constructing a detailed security survey,” said the federation’s chief executive Tim May. “We will be requesting players from across the world to complete this survey in order for the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other parties that may access the information to be acutely aware of the players’ concerns and observations of such security issues,” May was quoted as saying by the BBC. “It is expected that this survey would be completed prior to the year’s end,” May added.

England were initially reluctant to travel to India for the Test series in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks while Pakistan too has bit hit hard by terrorism.

FICA president Jimmy Adams admitted safety of players’ is paramount when on tour. “FICA recognises the seriousness of the growing instability in some parts of the cricketing world,” said the former West Indies batsman.

“It is the role of FICA and its player associations to play a positive role in doing everything possible to ensure that cricket matches and events are played in the safest possible environments and provide the most applicable security arrangements to protect the safety of players.”—Agencies
