Plea against TV channel admitted

LAHORE, Dec 18: Lahore High Court Acting Chief Justice Mian Najamuz Zaman on Thursday cleared a plea against a private television channel of objections placed earlier by the registrar office.

Justice Zaman also admitted for regular hearing the petition, seeking registration of a case against of the TV channel employees and owners for airing a story that Ajmal Kasab was a resident of Faridkot. A PPP leader, Sardar Hur Bukhari, had filed the petition.

He submitted that he had filed an application for registration of a case with the Muslim Town police against the bureau chief, reporter, cameraman and owners of the channel for running the story which tarnished Pakistan's image all over the world and also gave an opportunity to all Indian TV channels to air propaganda against Pakistan.

The police did not register the case, he said and added that the TV channel by running the fake story had committed an anti-state activity.

He had prayed for direction to the Muslim Town SHO and the SP concerned to register an FIR against the responsible.

The registrar office had earlier directed the petitioner to move lower court because the case fell within its jurisdiction.
