KOHAT, Dec 24: A large number of tribesmen have migrated from Shahu Khel area of Orakzai Agency and taken shelter at a self-made camp in Raisan area of Hangu district to escape wrath of Taliban.

At least 600 to 800 tribesmen established a camp in Shia dominant area of Raisan in Hangu district following daily kidnappings and killings of people of their sect in Shahu Khel, a stronghold of Taliban, in Orakzai Agency.

In Shahu Khel, both the Shia and Sunni tribesmen share the same area unlike other parts of Orakzai Agency where they have their own separate villages set up by the British Empire to control sectarian violence.

The British had confined Shia population to the left and Sunni to the right bank of the Orakzai Toi, a river, which served as a natural border by dividing the lower Orakzai into two equal halves.

The displaced tribesmen requested the villagers of Raisan to provide them shelter because Taliban had made it a routine to kidnap and slaughter them especially in Shahu Khel area for the last several months.

They felt more prone to Taliban attacks as compared to other parts of the agency because of mixed population in the area.

PHOTO EXHIBITION: The Pakistan People’s Party has organised a three-day exhibition of rare photographs of the former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, at Kohat Town Hall here that will open on Friday in memory of the slain leader. Besides, Quran Khwani would be held at 10am on December 27 at the residence of the former speaker of the NWFP Assembly, Barrister Syed Masud Kausar, which would be participated by a large number of workers as well as the general public.

The workers have also planned to hold Quran Khwani in various parts of Kohat to pray for the soul of their beloved leader.
