KARACHI: Two killed in city

KARACHI, Dec 28: Two people were killed on Sunday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

The Soldier Bazaar police said that a 28-year-old man was shot dead near his house at Soldier Bazaar No 1.

The police said that the victim, hailing from Swat, was a cattle trader and was shot dead by unknown attackers near Qureshi Hall at around 8.50pm.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital where the victim was identified as Irfan Khan alias Kali, son of Khewa Din.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section said that the victim had received two bullets in his upper torso from very close range.

The police said that the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal feud.

No case was registered till late, they said.

Gangster shot

A 26-year-old man was shot dead by gangsters in mafia-infested Lyari.

The Baghdadi police said that the victim, Sajid alias Tunda, was killed when rival gangsters opened fire on him near his house.

They said that the victim was a member of a gang and was wanted by the police in at least five cases.

The police said that the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital, but the victim’s relatives took away the body without a post-mortem examination.

They said the police would register a case against unknown culprits on behalf of the state.

Suspect killed

A suspected bandit was killed and two security guards were wounded in a shoot-out at a factory in Sukkun.

The police said that two guards — Sher Khan and Mohammed Ismail — exchanged fire with two dacoits as they tried to enter the factory.

They said that one of the suspects was killed and the two guards sustained bullet wounds in the shoot-out.

The body and the wounded guards were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said that the injured guards were discharged after medical treatment.

Shell explodes

Panic gripped parts of Pak Colony when a shell exploded at a junk warehouse.

Witnesses said that a heavy contingent of police and Rangers reached the spot and collected the pieces of the exploded shell for examination.

The police said that no one was hurt in the explosion.

They said that the blast created a three-foot crater at the warehouse.
