FAISALABAD, Dec 29: The Punjab government has earmarked Rs750 million for the construction of 23 arteries in Faisalabad city and a technical committee, comprising officials of various departments, has been constituted to ensure first-rate construction.

Not a single department will be allowed to break or dig the road after its construction for any sort of work and the member departments of the committee, including Wasa, FDA, Sui Gas, PTCL, Fesco, Traffic Police, NLC and Nespak, would complete requirements prior to the construction.

This was told in a briefing given to parliamentarians, including Senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz, law minister Rana Sanaullah, MNA Fazal Karim, Akram Ansari, Ijaz Virk and MPAs Khwaja Islam and Malik Nawaz, at the commissioner office on Monday.

The senior minister said all technical details of roads had been submitted to the parliamentarians for their approval within one week.

Rana Sanaullah said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would be requested for further allocation of Rs250 million to revamp the remaining roads of the district.

Similarly, he said, the provincial and federal governments would be approached for funds for new and ongoing mega projects. The NLC would execute all road projects, Nespak was consultant and a third party would monitor and audit such projects, he added.

The roads approved for construction include: Raja to Millat Chowk, Gulistan Colony, Tariq Road to Narwala Road, Chak 279 to ABC Cinema Chowk, Main Warispura Road, Lasani Puli to Subhan Allah Mosque Road, Tezab Mills to Jaranwala Road, Karkhana Bazaar, Kutchery Bazaar, Sattiana Road, Kashmir Road (Ghulam Mohammadabad), Ambanwali Puli to Qaim Sain Shrine, Regal Road, Lyallpur Cotton Mills Road, Samanabad College Road and Novelty Pul to Sittara Colony.
