FRANKFURT, Jan 2: The German automobile club ADAC said on Friday that last year set records for auto and truck fuel prices, with diesel in particular posting a big jump from the level in 2007.

ADAC calculated that on average, diesel fuel cost 1.3240 euros per litre (7.0 dollars per gallon) in 2008, an increase of 16.4 euro cents per litre, or 14.14 per cent.

Petrol was 5.2 cents, or 3.89 per cent, more expensive on average, at 1.389 euros per litre (7.34 dollars per gallon).

The auto club noted that fuel prices had fallen sharply since hitting historic highs on July 5 of 1.585 euros for a litre of petrol (8.38 dollars per gallon of gasoline) and 1.538 euros for diesel fuel ($8.13 per gallon).—AFP
