FAISALABAD, Jan 2: Police registered on Friday cases against 861 labourers, industrialists and a police official for damaging public and private property and attacking the residence of a Pakistan People’s Party MPA on Thursday.
Mansoorabad police lodged a case against police official Rana Atif, his brother-in-law Sajid Saood and Abdul Razzaq of Jhumra. Mr Atif, serving as Madina Town station house officer, has been suspended. The section of 155-C of the Police Order has also been added against him for misusing of his official powers.
Mansoorabad SHO Shahid Gujjar said two accused Razzaq and Saood had been arrested.
MPA Dr Moazzam told a press conference on Thursday police did not charge criminals with the terrorism act and his party would approach the district and sessions judge on Saturday (today) if police did not include section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the FIR.
He said two dozen people on Jan 1 had pelted his residence with stones and forced their entry, subjecting his younger brother Shehzad Moazzam to severe torture, forcing house members to lock themselves in a room.
He asked the chief minister to intervene into the matter as criminals had attacked the house of an MPA.
Also, Madina Town police lodged a case against 600 workers with All Pakistan Sizing Association Chairman Mirza Shafiq, Labour Qaumi Movement Chairman Mian Qayyum, secretary Aslam Miraj and another office-bearer Rana Tahir nominated in the case.
Another case against 250 people was instituted with the Factory Area police station. However, no one has been nominated in the case.
The people have been booked after riots on Jan 1 when thousands of labourers were protesting against the power crisis.
