PERTH, Jan 2: Pakistan paceman Umar Gul is looking forward to bowling on the WACA Ground here after making his Western Warriors debut away to South Australia last week.

The Warriors return home after experiencing mixed results on the other side of the Nullabor, where they followed up a Twenty20 loss to the Redbacks with victory over New South Wales in the same tournament.

Umar, too, produced inconsistent performances, but his 4-15 on debut at the Adelaide Oval gave fans their first taste of his destructive best and impressed WA coach Tom Moody.“It’s been a great start for him,” Moody said.

“It was no surprise, not that I expect him to get four wickets every game, but I’m very aware of what he can bring to the group.

“He’s a quality performer and in that first game showed why he’s one of the best in the world in his trade of fast bowling.”

While Umar was happy with his performance in Adelaide, it is at his new home ground that he is really looking forward to playing.

The WACA Ground wicket is returning to its quick and bouncy best — although Ricky Ponting may beg to differ — attributes sure to help pace bowlers of Gul’s ilk.

“I think, as everybody knows, this is a fast wicket and I really enjoy it here,” Umar said. “I will try to perform for my team and try to win the match.”—Agencies
