ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: The twin cities and surrounding areas received six millimeter rain on Saturday, bringing the temperature down.
The drizzle started in the morning and continued almost uninterrupted throughout the day.
According to Met office, the wet spell is likely to continue till Monday afternoon.
The rain forced the people to remain inside. Minor road accidents were also reported because of poor visibility and slippery roads.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was, however, quick in advising the motorists to keep safest possible distance between vehicles while driving besides reducing the speed limit by almost 20 kilometers per hour.
An official of the Islamabad Traffic Police mobile helpline unit told Dawn that traffic police had toed 15 vehicles as they broke down due to rain.
“In case of any emergency the drivers can seek our help by dialing at the landline numbers 9263182-5,” he said.
He also said that traffic load on the city roads was a bit low as many offices observed Saturday as closed holiday.
The Met office has predicted scattered thunderstorm, rain with snowfall over the hills in upper Punjab, upper NWFP and the Kashmir for the next 24-hours.
Meanwhile, maximum temperature in other cities is recorded: Rawalpindi 20°C, Attock 18°C and Jehlum 23°C.
TRAVEL ADVISORY: Tourists traveling from twin cities towards Muree were advised by the Rawalpindi Traffic Police (RTP) to travel with hazards lights.
The RTP helpline official remarked: “This is just a precautionary measure and we request the road users to strictly follow the speed limits,” he said.
Meanwhile, National Highways and Motorways Police official spokesman, Javed Chauhdry, said: “With the current spell of the rain the fog has ended on Saturday”. The traffic, he said, at all the entry and exit points of Motorways was recorded normal.
“Due to rain we request the drivers to keep a safe distance between vehicles while driving.”
