KARACHI, Jan 15: A 45-year-old woman was slaughtered on Thursday in her home by her son and nephews in Qayyumabad.

The Korangi Industrial Area police said the victim woman, Ameera Bibi, had married Allah Yar some eight years back after her first husband, Noor Mohammed, died.

They said the victim’s son, Amjad, from her first husband wanted his mother to divorce the second husband, and he killed the woman when she refused to end her second marriage.

The police said the suspect, Amjad, with his maternal cousins, Shafi and Imran, came to the victim’s house (89, Gali 4) on Wednesday and stayed the night at the victim’s place.

They said the victim’s husband, a junk vendor, left home for work in the morning and he returned at around 3pm to find his wife slaughtered. The suspects had fled the scene before Allah Yar returned home.

He reported the matter to the police who shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the throat of the woman had been slit with a sharp-edged object.

The police said they did not find the weapon used in the crime.

They said a search had been mounted for the absconding suspects, who are stated to be the residents of Khuda Ki Basti in the Khwaja Ajmair Nagri police limits. The police said that no case was registered till late as the victim’s husband was busy with the funeral.

They said the woman had seven children from her late husband and she had no child from the second one.

The police said the victim’s children were grown up and lived with their other relatives, while the woman lived alone with her second husband.

Robbery victim, robber killed

A 38-year-old real estate broker and a suspected dacoit were shot dead by each other in Surjani Town.

The police said the victim, Mohammed Akbar Khan, son of Haji Abdullah Jan, was at his Al-Falah Estate Agency at Kanch Mohammed Goth in Deh Nagan, when two dacoits came there and held him hostage.

They said the bandits opened fire on the victim when he struggled with one of them. The police said victim was fatally wounded, but he also shot back hitting one of the bandits.

Both the victim and the suspected bandit died before they could be taken to hospital.

The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section said the victim received two bullets in the chest and the abdomen, while the suspect received a single bullet that pierced his neck.

The police said the estate broker also owned a marriage hall situated adjacent to his estate agency office. He was a resident of Lyari and father of five. He hailed from the NWFP.

The police said the killed suspect was identified as Sadiq Ali Kashmiri after the police found his national identity card in one of his pockets.

No case was registered till late as the police were busy in the medico-legal proceedings.
