HYDERABAD, Jan 16: The Pakistan People’s Party government has done nothing to resolve the problems of Khairpur district UCs headed by Awam Dost Nazims, said a nazim.

Awam Dost Nazim of Hindiari Union Council, Khairpur district Abdul Rasool Shar said this during a press conference at the press club on Friday.

He said that only 16 out of 76 Awam Dost nazims in Khairpur district could be elected in 2005 local bodies’ elections because of police and the then government pressure.

He said surprisingly PPP lost even those seats which were its stronghold so much so that the seat of Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s constituency could not be won. It was hoped that the PPP on assuming power would compensate 16 Awam Dost UC Nazims who were not, he said. He said that not a single development scheme had been sanctioned in the UCs of Awam Dost nazims during 2005 to 2009.

Shar said that though this was brought to the notice of Sindh Chief Minister on Dec 12 at Khairpur but so far nothing had been done.

He said that the recent rains damaged 100 per cent standing crop in his constituency, kept schools shut and marooned people of eight villages, while Thari Mirwah taluka municipal administration was yet to drain water out from their homes. People held a demonstration on Jan 10 which was called off on the assurance of local PPP MPA.

“The taluka nazim has neither provided machine to drain water out nor arranged anti-malaria spray with people catching malaria,” he said adding that even MNA Pir Sadruddin Shah was approached but to no avail.
