ISLAMABAD, Jan 16: Pakistan informed India on Friday about actions it had initiated against the elements blamed by New Delhi for the Mumbai attacks.

“Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir conveyed to Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal in Islamabad the sequence and series of actions initiated by Pakistan in pursuance of its international obligations as well as those relating to the Mumbai terrorist attacks,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

According to a source, details of preliminary investigations into the incident had also been shared with the high commissioner.

Although the source did not provide details of the findings shared with India, he said the questions posed by them exceeded the answers.

The purpose of the exercise, he believed, was to build a case for joint investigation, but India was reluctant.

An Indian diplomat did acknowledge that certain questions had been raised after the preliminary investigation.

Mr Bashir told Mr Pal that it was important for Pakistan and India to chart the way forward on anti-terrorism cooperation as well as the need for an across-the-board constructive bilateral engagement.

The foreign secretary handed over a letter addressed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in response to new year’s greetings sent by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Mr Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s desire for “friendly and cooperative relationship” with India.
