Zadeh on IPI issue

Published January 17, 2009

FAISALABAD, Jan 16: Iranian province Khorasan Governor Engineer Mohammad Jawad Mohammadi Zadeh has said Iran will provide 1,000 megawatts (MW) electricity to Pakistan and installation of power generation plan having capacity of 100MW will be completed soon.

Mr Zadeh said this at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FCCI) here on Friday. He said being a Muslim country, Iran would help Pakistan tackle the power crisis and a power plant ‘Zahidan’ with a 1,000MW capacity was being installed at Gwadar.

Besides, he said, issues for the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline had been resolved with Pakistan, and that India would also be convinced to join the project.

He said both Pakistan and Iran had enormous potential for the textile sector development, and gigantic foreign exchange could easily be fetched by instituting trade-free zones and export of value-added products to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Khagistan and others central Asian states. He also offered help to develop dairy farms in Pakistan.
