KARACHI, Jan 20: Six people, including a middle-aged woman, were killed on Tuesday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

The Baghdadi police said the bullet-riddled body of a gangster was found lying near Garage Colony in the small hours of Tuesday. Identified as Abid Tingu, the victim was shifted to the Civil Hospital by the police.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot five bullets, two each to the head and the leg and one to the chest, from a very close range as all the bullets went through the body.

The police said the gangster, who was wanted in at least 20 criminal cases, had a Rs300,000 reward on his arrest.

They said the gangster belonged to the Ghaffar Zikri group. The police said the body was kept at the Edhi morgue where his family identified him.

They said the victim was killed by the culprits somewhere else and they threw the body in Baghdadi police area as no spent bullet casings were found near the body.

They said a case (FIR 15/2009) against unknown culprits was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state.

Shot dead

A 35-year-old man was found shot dead near his home in Nasir Colony in the small hours of Tuesday.

The Korangi police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.

The sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim, Liaquat Ali, son of Munshi Khan, was shot two bullets, one to the head and the other to the cheek, from a point-blank range as both bullets went through the skull.

The police said the victim was wanted in two drug-related cases.

They said a case (FIR 20/09) was registered against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Hanif.

Woman found dead

The body of a middle-aged woman was found at a desolate place in the bushes in Musharraf Colony.

The Mauripur police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for an autopsy. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim woman, who appeared to be in her mid-40s, had a fatal wound to the head by a heavy object. They said the body also bore marks of torture.

The body was later kept at the Edhi morgue as the victim remained unidentified.

The Mauripur police registered a murder case against unknown culprits on behalf of the state.

Man found dead

The body of an unidentified elderly man was found in the bushes near the Police Training Centre.

The Saeedabad police said the body was lying beside the wall of the PTC. They said the body was taken to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination where sources said that the man had received a fatal wound to the head by a heavy object. They said the body also bore several marks of torture.

The sources said the bearded victim, who appeared to be a Pathan, was in his late 50s.

The police said the body was kept at the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

The police registered a case (FIR 38/2009) against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC on behalf of the state.

They said efforts were being made to ascertain the victim’s identity.

Found slaughtered

A 35-year-old man was found slaughtered in Surjani Town.

The Surjani Town police said the victim, Aftab Ahmed, son of Mohammed Ibrahim, was a resident of house N-614 in Sector 7-D and his body was found lying near Faizan-i-Mustafa masjid in Sector 4.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the throat of the victim was slit. They said the victim also received a stab in the abdomen.

The police said the victim, a factory worker, had left his house on Monday night and he had been missing since then.

They said no case was registered till late as the police were still waiting for a family member of the victim’s to become a complainant.
