LAHORE, Jan 20: A month-long signature campaign launched here on Tuesday by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for People’s Rights urged the leaders of Pakistan and India to rule out any possibility of war between the two countries.
“The aim of this campaign is to let the leaders of both countries know about what really people want,” said Shah Taj Qizalbash, the JAC convener.
“In order to get this petition widely signed we have formed committees, which would visit different public places, schools, colleges and universities till Feb 20,” she said.
The JAC is a consortium of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on a range of issues such as human rights, women rights, education, labour rights and minority rights.
“After we get signed our petition against terrorism and war posturing by a significant number of people, we will submit it to the Indian premier and the president of Pakistan” Qizalbash said and added that this was the only way to let the leaders and politicians know that people wanted peace. —Hassnain Ghayoor
