KARACHI, Jan 23: The University of Karachi’s department of Sindhi in collaboration with the provincial department of culture and tourism is organising a national literary conference on the ‘Samma period’ of Sindh on Saturday on the campus.

Karachi University Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr) Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Sindh Law Minister Mohammad Ayaz Soomro, Culture Minister Sassui Palijo, Dr Ghulam Mohammad Lakho, Sardar Jam Tamachi Unar, Haji Ali Murad Rajar, Abdul Razzaq Rahimoon, Sardar Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhatti, Prof (Dr) Akhlaq Ahmed, Prof (Dr) Mohammad Shamsuddin, Mehmood Sham, Mohammad Hassan Bhutto, Prof (Dr) Abdul Jabbar Junejo, Shaikh Aziz and Dr Habibullah Siddiqui will attend the conference, says a KU press release.

SSC exams from March 20

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) announced on Friday that Secondary School Certificate part I and II annual examinations-2009 science and general groups (regular and private) would commence from March 20.

The controller of examinations of the board, Syed Jawed Iftikhar, said that about 300,000 candidates were expected to appear in these exams which were being held a month earlier this year as compared to the previous year because of a decision of the government’s steering committee on education.

He said that as many as 272,000 examination forms had been received at the board till Jan 20.

Meanwhile, the board has issued a proposed programme for these examinations according to which the examinations will commence on March 20 with the papers of Islamiat and for non-Muslims students paper of ethics, and English (compulsory) paper II for the general group of part II students.—Agencies
