Two ‘criminals’ arrested

One of the detainees was a gang leader, with Rs500,000 bounty on his head.

District Police Officer (DPO) Fakhar Sultan Raja told reporters that the law enforcers in recent weeks launched a campaign to nab proclaimed offenders and criminals hiding in the Kala Chita hills. DPO Raja said the police established a network of informants in the area to track the movement of their targets.

An intelligence unit on Monday informed the authorities that the most wanted proclaimed offender, Khyal Mohammad alias Khyalo of Ghoramar village, and one of his accomplices, Nawabzada of Bata village, were present in Bagh Neelab village of Kala Chita area.

A police team led by DSP Patrolling police Hafeez Ahmed Olukh and the Attock Saddar police SHO raided the criminals’ hideout and arrested both of them, besides seizing weapons.

The two men were shifted to the interrogation cell in the Attock Saddar police station amid high security.

Giving information about the POs’ criminal record, DPO Raja said Khyal Mohammad had formed a gang in Kala Chita area in 1982 after absconding in a murder case.

Both criminals arrested in Monday’s raid were wanted in 12 murder, attempted murder, robbery and terrorism cases, which had been registered during the last 26 years with the Attock Saddar and Jand police. They had also killed a constable, Majeedullah, during an attack on the police in the jurisdiction of Jand police in 1992, the DPO said.
