LAHORE, Jan 27: Younis Khan celebrated his appointment as Pakistan captain with an unbeaten 50 as Habib Bank struggled to 191-7 against Lahore Shalimar on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam National Cricket Championship match at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Opener Imran Nazir Junior scored 55 in a disappointing batting display from the star-studded Habib Bank team. Flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi lasted only 10 deliveries before falling to upcoming paceman Mohammad Naveed for a duck.

Naveed finished the day with figures of five for 106.

Earlier, Lahore Shalimar added 33 to overnight tally of 219 for six before they were dismissed for 252. Skipper Zulqarnain Haider remained unbeaten on 67.

There was no play for the second day running in the game between PIA and Wapda at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot because of rain.

Pakistan Customs reached 120-6 in reply to SNGPL’s 196 at the Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala where around 150 minutes of play was lost because of fog and rain. Azhar Shafiq was stranded on 98 not out when the final wicket fell in the SNGPL’s innings.

Lahore Ravi were 83-3 after bowling out Rawalpindi for 304 in their first innings at the LCCA Ground. Fawad Hussain, who was batting on 85 on Monday, made 106 for the visitors.

Islamabad reached 61-4 after Faisalabad made 151 in their first innings at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Left-arm paceman Saad Altaf excelled with five for 75.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Karachi: Karachi Whites were poised to take first innings lead after reducing ZTBL to 187 for eight at the National Stadium.

All-rounder Tariq Haroon troubled the ZTBL batsmen with his medium-paced deliveries to claim five for 62 in 24 overs.

At one stage, the ZTBL were 127 for eight, but an unfinished partnership of 60 between wicket-keeper Shakeel Ansar (43) and Mohammad Khalil (33) denied Karachi Whites further success.

Earlier, Karachi Whites added only four more runs to the overnight 228-8 before they were all out for 232. Junaid Nadir, the all-rounder who bowls medium-pacers, finished with five for 64 in 22.3 overs. Later he scored 41.Hyderabad piled up 471 in their first innings against Abbottabad at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad after opener Azeem Ghumman (147, 14 boundaries) and Faisal Athar (140, 17 fours and four sixes) put on 237 for the third wicket.

Abbottabad’s left-arm paceman Armaghan Elahi continued his good with five for 68 in 36 overs.

Abbottabad closed the day 48-1 in reply.

Meanwhile, the second day of the match at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi was completely washed out. On Monday, SSGC were 57-7 in reply to KRL’s 191.

The game between Peshawar and Quetta, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of heavy rain in Peshawar.
