GUJRANWALA, Jan 28: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a medical college in Gujranwala and its building will be completed during the current year.

Moreover, the chief minister has directed the chief secretary and 15 provincial secretaries to camp in Gujranwala for six days to solve the problems of people at their doorstep.

Addressing officials and parliamentarians at the DCO’s Office here on Wednesday, he also approved the construction of a T-shape flyover near Sialkot Road railway crossing and allocated Rs1 billion for the project.

He also approved a Rs400 million development package for Gujranwala division and directed that development schemes be started after taking in to account proposals and suggestions from respective MPAs and MNAs.

He announced a Rs100 million grant for Gujranwala police and directed them to work hard to provide security to the masses. He also ordered installing CCTV cameras at sensitive places to help police curb crime.

He ordered the district administration to get official land vacated from grabbers and launch a stern drive against them without any fear or favour.

He also suspended from service the district officer (colleges), Prof. Rahat Ali, and the superintendent of public health engineering department over negligence and inefficiency and ordered an inquiry against them.

Earlier, parliamentarians belonging to different political parties, including the PPP, called on the chief minister. The PPP MPs complained that they were being ignored by the district administration in connection with their uplift schemes.

The chief minister had a lunch at the residence of former federal minister and PML-N leader Ghulam Dastgir Khan in Satellite Town. Local PML-N MPs were also present there.

Meanwhile, a Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation, led by its president M. Akram Badshah, also called on the chief minister and presented him a 10-point memorandum for the construction of a new small industries estate, two workers welfare schools, labour colony, medical college and five flyovers on GT Road. The chamber president said that the chief minister had accepted all of their demands.

A lawyers’ delegation also met the chief minister and got approval of establishment of a lawyers’ colony and a library.

While talking to reporters in Circuit House, the chief minister also announced the establishment of a journalists’ colony and a press club.

He said the PML-N did not accept ‘PCO-judges’ and he was ready to face any consequences if they (PCO-judges) wanted punishing him for serving the masses.
