LARKANA, Feb 2: The construction of a drain in the north DK-G area of Moenjodaro continued on Monday with the discovery of more objects by a team of archaeologists.

The drain is being constructed for pumping out rain water into old circular drain.

Curator Irshad Ridd told Dawn about the application of strata graphic, a modern methodology for uncovering underlying structures coming in the way during excavation.

A terracotta figurine with two broken horns and eyes, one small and the other big, had been recovered, he said, adding that it was unique as never before such a thing was recovered from Moenjodaro. Other artefacts were an over-fired piece more often used by ironsmiths and an alabaster, sent to Moenjodaro laboratory for further verification for it was thickly covered with mud.

COURT: The criminally assaulted woman appeared before the court of district and sessions judge along with her mother and husband. She was assaulted in Dokri on Jan 28.

The court directed Dokri police for providing protection to the woman against alleged rapists as she had requested it in an application, said her lawyer Abbas Gaad.

Dokri police after registering an FIR against Bakhshal, Sabir Magsi and Manthar Magsi arrested Bakhshal and Manthar while third was still at large.

The victim told journalists that the criminals nominated in the FIR and their relatives were threatening both the woman and her husband. She said that they were influential people while the father of absconding criminal was hurling threats and demanding withdrawal of the case. The woman seeking protection warned of committing suicide along with her children if justice was denied to her.

Sindh Minister for Women’s Welfare Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto phoned the victim and assured her of protection and justice.

Dr Sakina Gaad, In-charge Women Complaint and Crisis Cell, Larkana met the victim in the court and provided free legal aid through a lawyer.

MARCH: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association on Monday completed arrangements for a march from Naudero to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Feb 3 for the acceptance of demands.

SPLA leaders Prof Liaquat Aziz, Prof Moharram Kalhoro, Prof Muzaffar Rizvi, Prof Muhammed Ayoub Marri and others had reached Larkana.

Participants of a joint meeting of Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot chapters of the SPLA accused the government of pushing them to the dock by refusing to accept their genuine demands.

They said that the Sindh government had yet not issued regularisation orders of ad hoc lecturers in pursuance to recent executive orders of Prime Minister, they said.

Delay in upgradation of professors and refusal to lift ban from teachers’ organisation had generated resentment, they said.
